The transport company Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) is preparing to convert to electric public transport. The goal is to purchase only emission-free buses for the city of Hamburg starting in 2020. This includes the order for 16 Mercedes-Benz electric buses. The vehicles, scheduled for delivery at the end of 2019, will feature a series of special equipment. In fact, for the first time, they will be able to boast the maximum power for the eCitaro thanks to twelve batteries with a total capacity of 292 kWh. «This translates into a range of around 170 kilometers according to the SORT2 cycle, without the need to recharge along the route. In ideal conditions, the autonomy can even reach about 280 kilometers, “states the German manufacturer.
The 16 vehicles will be recharged at the depot using an ingenious charge management system. «This technology guarantees a precise recharge of every single bus to adapt to its specific application, without unnecessary and expensive current peaks. The interior of the buses is also thermally preconditioned. This reduces the energy consumption for climate control during use and therefore extends the range “.
The vehicles will have three double-width doors and glazed side segments between the axles. On board, there will be a large area in front of the second door with plenty of space for transporting wheelchairs, prams and standing passengers,USB charging sockets for smartphones, wood-effect floor covering and a new design of the seat cover developed for electric buses.
