In the UK market since 1985, Optare borned from a rib of Leyland Motors Ltd. The company was formed by some employees of the Charles H. Roe Ltd, a subsidiary of Leyland, following the closure in 1984. The company deals with the design, manufacture and sale of minibuses to luxury coach, low floor bus and doubledecker. The vehicles are produced in factorie of Leeds (formerly Leyland). Optare buses are exported to continental Europe and North America.
Since 2012 Optare is part of Ashok Leyland Ltd, the flagship company in India of the Hinduja Group.
