The city of Osnabrück, north-west Germany, will expand its electric fleet with further VDL buses. They are 49 articulated Citea SLFA-181 electric buses and they will join the thirteen in operation since the end 2018 on the fully electric line 1. Lines 2 to 5 will follow, as soon as the 49 articulated electric VDL buses are put into service by Stadtwerke Osnabrück. They will travel a total of 14,000 km per day and they will be in operation around the clock. This will be possible thanks to the optimized rapid charging concept. The batteries have an energy capacity of 216 kWh and can be charged at a rate of up to 320 kW.

In 2021, the city will have a total of 62 emission-free public transport buses in operation. For the municipality of Osnabrück, the complete electrification of the local transport is an important part of the ‘Mobile Future’ project. This includes sustainable mobility concepts, promotion of environmentally friendly local mobility, furtherance of e-mobility, encouragement of bicycle use and advancement of public transport.
