The public transport operator based in Kiel, north Germany, has taken delivery of 36 electric articulated buses from the VDL Citea SLFA-187 Electric low-floor range. The vehicles were commissioned last year and will be used on five city routes operated by KVG (Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft). Recharging will be carried out at each terminus through a pantograph. At the end of the day, the buses will be almost 100% recharged. In the morning, a few minutes before the start of the service, they will receive a top-up charge, so they will start their first run fully recharged. Within this project, VDL collaborates with Schaltbau Refurbishment for the supply of 450 kW charging devices.
The Citea SLFA-187 Electric bus model is developed over a length of 18.7 meters and has a fully low floor. In this size, they are the first electric buses delivered by VDL Bus & Coach. This version makes it possible to offer seating for an additional four passengers.
