Established in 1995, BYD is a high-tech company specializing in IT, auto and new energy. In the traditional gasoline vehicle field, BYD’s product range covers sedan, MPV, and SUV, while in the electric vehicle field, BYD offers its advanced EV technology rolling out a series of cutting-edge electric vehicles. In 2009, the first pure electric bus from BYD, the eBUS-12, came out of its Changsha industrial park, which is a manufacturing site designed for electric buses only. In 2010 BYD signed an agreement with Daimler to jointly develop all-electric cars.
Listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2002, BYD built by the end of 2010 eleven industrial plants across China with over 15 million square metres of factory space.
