To trace the origins of Hess must make a leap of two centuries. And place on 1882, when Heinrich Hess opened in Solothurn (Swiss German) a body to repair all kinds of trucks and trailers. Since 1919 were produced buses, trucks and cars. In 1933, Hess presented its first bus with aluminum body. Seven years later came out the first trolley and in 1961 the articulated bus. Then, in 1977, the Cobus, a bus for airports. Other international premiere was the low floor trailer for passengers (1987), a solution that will be adopted in 1991 on the articulated trolleybus called Swisstrolley. With the new Millennium Hess opened the era of high-capacity vehicles and in 2003 the Swiss company inaugurated the first low floor trolleybus with double articulation followed in 2007 by the first low floor hybrid bus with three bodies.
Hess is now a group of five companies in Switzerland and declares a production of about 2,400 buses a year. Vehicles are sold in six continents where production takes place in cooperation with exclusive licensees thanks to the modular co-Bolt system. The Hess Group is also involved in repair and maintenance activities and offers assistance 24 hours on 24 all over Switzerland.
