Scania Bus Italy is a member of Scania Group, a multinational company that produces trucks, buses, chassis and engines and has a presence in over 100 countries through 1,000 dealerships and 1,500 workshops and about 32 000 employees worldwide. Scania Bus Italy is responsible for the commercialization of Scania buses and chassis on Italian market. The company debuted in April 2001 in Trento at the headquarter of Italscania, another subsidiary of the Swedish group, however, devoted to the sale of trucks and spare parts. As for buses, Scania Buses & Coaches (Scania bus divisione in Katrineholm) was already present in Italy since 1999 with its own separate office at the headquarters of Italscania. In those years were marketed buses series OmniCity, never sold before in Italy. Another objective was to strengthen the Scania brand presence in intercity transport, a sector in which the Swedish producer had been in operation for years through collaboration with the Italian De Simon for the construction of intercity buses on Scania chassis. The increase in sales over the following years led to the birth of Scania Bus Italy. After the Omnicity, then available with natural gas and ethanol engine, were introduced on the Italian market the OmniLink and the Omnicity in intercity version. All models naturally equipped with Scania engine.
As for the touring coaches, Scania has been collaborating for several years with the Iberian manufacturer Irizar that coaches most of its models on Scania chassis. These vehicles are sold in Italy through its subsidiary Irizar Italy.
The after-sales service of Scania Bus Italy is managed through the network of Scania workshops (115 throughout the country) that are part of Italscania Spa.
