Nissan Italy is a subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, a major Japanese car manufacturers, the second largest only to the Toyota. Founded in 1933 in Yokohama, the Japanese company is active in construction and sale of automotive products, industrial machinery and marine equipment. The production is spread among 16 sites in Japan and abroad. Products and services are sold in over 160 countries worldwide. In European market Nissan landed in the early Sixties and settled in Italy in the late Eighties. In the following decade the company was involved in the financial crisis of the whole group membership and then in 1999 was owned by Renault which acquired a share of the Nissan capital. That's an alliance that has led to a great revival plan for the Japanese company and helped rebuild profits after several difficult years. An alliance that continues today and sees the two companies linked by cross-shareholdings: Renault owns 44.4 percent of Nissan and the latter 15 percent of Renault. The two companies share a coherent strategy, objectives and principles, industrial cooperation and trade but in accordance with their respective brands and identities. There are five brands represented in this partnership: Nissan and Infiniti on the Japanese front and Renault, Dacia and Samsung for the French side.
As for Nissan Italy, this is a limited liability company with sole member and head office in Rome. Vehicles marketed in the country range from city cars, crossover, 4x4, sports and electrical means, to commercial vehicles. For the public transport of passengers, Nissan offers the Interstar in the bus and combi versions.
