Solaris Bus & Coach builds public transport vehicles since 1996. Despite his young age, the Polish company has taken a leading role in the local bus market while asserting on the European scenario. In addition to the bus version of urban, suburban and tourism, Solaris produces trolleybuses, special vehicles and, lately, even trams.
The company takes its first steps as a brunch of Neoplan in the Polish market. In 1994 Neoplan Polska starts in Varsaw. It's a company 100 percent owned by the Olszewski family (current owners of Solaris). One year later the Neoplan Polska opens a bus factory in Bolechovo, town near Poznan in the Central West Poland. In 1997 the company produces low-floor buses in 10, 12, 15 and 18 metres, vehicles marked since 1999 with the logo of Dachshund that became a symbol of corporate brand. In 1999 comes out the Urbino range for the city in various sizes. The next year begins exports to the Czech Republic and Germany. In 2001 is ready the Vacanza coach and the first trolleybus, called Trollino and built in collaboration with the Hungarian Ganz and Polish MedCom for electrical parts. That same year the company changes its name into "Solaris Bus & Coach Sp.z.o.o" and in 2005 becomes a stock company. Meanwhile, inaugurates the Urbino second generation brought in low entry, gas engine and, since 2006, hybrid. In 2008, Solaris closes its budget with a record sales exceed one thousand units. Result that is passed the following year with 1114 vehicles produced. In 2009 the Polish builder wins a contract in Poznan for 40 low-floor trams with Tramino, the first rail vehicle manufactured by Solaris.
