The first Castrosua bodies dated to 1948. They were in wood and built in a small factory in Galicia. Since the mid-Sixties the Spanish coachbuilder made commercial alliances, first with Castro Carrrocera, a joint venture that led to the establishment of 'Castro-Caride', and then with Obradors and Barro Chavin from which born 'Unicar' (a company that will be closed in the Seventies due to the oil crisis). A new company was inaugurated in the Canary Islands, the Insular Carocera in Las Palmas, dedicated to the construction and repair of bodies. In the Nineties was opened the 'Castro InversioyDesarrollo Sa' (Cdsa) for the assembly of Scania chassis. In 1998 began working the Castro Carocera (CARS) in the previous plant of Unibus. Meanwhile Castrosua strengthened its position in citybus and intercity sector and in 1992 introduced the first low floor bus on the Iberian market. The following year debuted a version powered by natural gas. In 2003 a hydrogen-powered bus was developed in collaboration with Irisbus and other partners such as Air Liquide, UTC Fuel Cell and Cemat. The first unit was delivered to Emt of Madrid. Last born between clean vehicles is Tempus. It is an innovative hybrid all made in Spain. This model won the title of Bus of the Year 2009 in Spain. The Castrosua Group is currently composed of four companies: Castrosua, Carsa, Insucar in the Canaries and Cidsa for the assembly line of OmniCity Scania for the Spanish market. Overall the employees amount to 600. The range is composed of citybus, intercity and touring coaches.
