Feb 18, 2012 - Mercedes Travego awarded in Spain
The Mercedes-Benz Travego Edition 1 wins the title of 'Coach of the Year 2012' in Spain. The vehicle was awarded in Madrid by a jury of 27 experts which since 1998 has voted the best new commercial vehicles on behalf of two specialist truck magazines (Viajeros and Transporte 3, both published by Editec). First coach to meet the EURO 6 standard emissions (which becomes binding at the beginning of 2014), the Travego Edition 1 adopts new safety measures, new transmission with new gearshift, an ergonomically optimised cockpit and the last BlueEfficency Power engine that features the unique common-rail injection system X-Pulse with pressure booster. This delivers extremely precise fuel injection with cylinder-selective control, high injection pressures of up to 2100 bar and freely modulated injection, the prerequisites for low fuel consumption, low exhaust emissions and smooth engine operation.
Feb 17, 2012 - New buses in Udine
The bus fleet of SAF in Udine (Italy), a company of the Arriva group, can count on new buses. They are 25 vehicles marked by the Irisbus logo. 16 belong to the Arway range from 12 metres with Cursor 8 Euro 5 engine from 380 hp and 53 passengers seats, while 5 belong to the urban range Citelis in the CNG version and powered by EEV engine of 290 hp and automatic transmission (24 seating passengers and 56 standing). The remaining 4 vehicles are Daily Way with 19 passengers capacity and with F1C engine from 170 hp with particulate filter. Both the Citelis and the Arway vehicles are wheelchair accessible and have ABS and ASR braking system. The Daily minibuses feature ranks with individual air distribution for passengers and reclining seatbacks. The air conditioning system is standard equipment on all vehicles.
Feb 14, 2012 - Kmn picks Solaris for the third time
For the third time in a row German group KMN chose Solaris. This time an order was placed for 44 vehicles of the Urbino range (24 in the classic 12 metres version and 20 in the articulated 18 metres long version). During the course of 2012 the vehicles will be delivered to five bus operators, belonging to the Kmn group, in service in the Rhinenland German region. This supply brings the total number of Solaris buses in service in this part of Germany to about one hundred (ten of them are in the diesel-electric hybrid version).
Feb 14, 2012 - Scania technology for Avanza Group
In 2011 Scania completed the first phase of a three-year agreement signed between the Iberian Avanza Group and subsidiary Scania Hispania for the supply of 420 buses. Last year 167 vehicles were delivered to companies that are part of Avanza Group, the number one company in urban transport in Spain and second for long-distance services. The supply includes nine chassis models and ten bodyworks by different Iberians manufacturers (Tata Hispano, Irizar and Castrosua). A dozen companies were involved in the renewal of the transport fleet, among them the Consorcio de Transportes of Madrid which received 125 vehicles out of the 167 delivered.
Feb 08, 2012 - Göteborg chooses the Volvo hybrid
Another northern European city relies on hybrid technology by Volvo Buses. Gothenburg orders 25 hybrid buses of the 7700 series. The vehicle is equipped with an electric motor and a small diesel engine that, when in use, it is fuelled by biodiesel. This ecological choice fits into the program of Västtrafik local public transport authority to convert to fossil-free bus traffic while reducing fuel consumption. The vehicles will be delivered to Gothenburg Sparvägar, the company in charge of public transport services on behalf of Västtrafik. This order increases the number of hybrid buses by Volvo sold in Northern Europe to 100.

The 3+1 campaign by VDO has started again. With the purchase of three packs of disks for analogue tachograph and / or three rolls of printer paper for the digital tachograph, the customer will be honored with a chronometer. Available for all 2012 (while supplies last), it replaces the traditional wrist chronometer and provides greater ease in setting commands. This gadget is compliant with the 'rule of minutes' introduced in 2011 for the new generation of DTCO 1.4 digital tachographs in the transport sector. Accordingly the longest continuous activity taking place within a minute is registered as the asset for that minute.
Feb 08, 2012 - Citea VDL for Helsinki
VDL Bus & Coach signed a contract to supply 56 Citea LLE to Nobina, a transport company with branches in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark (3,500 buses and 7,600 employees). Intended for public transport in Helsinki, the vehicles are in the 'light low entry' version, therefore they have a very low empty weight that benefits consumption, emissions and maintenance costs. The floor is lowered at the entrance and exit doors. Accessibility is also improved thanks to the absence of platforms between entrance and exit. The vehicles are 12 meters in size and they are powered by Euro 5 engine with EEV technology. They have a capacity of 44 sitting passengers plus 40 standing. They will be deployed for regular service starting August 2012.

Eaton Corporation, a manufacturing industry operating in diversified sectors, opens the first Eaton Innovation Center in Europe. It's the fifth Innovation Center after those already opened in the United States, India and China. Located in Prague at the Roztoky Science & Technology Center, it's dedicated to research and development in the energy field for the development of solutions that make hydropower, electrical and mechanical energy more efficient, safe and sustainable. The Center will also carry out innovative research for the development of applications targeted to the electrification of transport, vehicles and airplanes. The company intends to employ up to 50 highly skilled engineers in the first year and about 300 employees within the next four to five following years.
Feb 06, 2012 - The Star shines on Istanbul
Other Mercedes buses for Istanbul. The IETT (Istanbul Electricity, Tramway Tunnel and general management), local public transport company whose fleet has more than 50 percent buses with the Star brand, ordered 221 Mercedes Conecto in urban low floor version. The vehicles were requested in the articulated variant from 18 meters, with capacity up to 160 passengers and Euro 5 standards thanks to its Bluetech diesel technology. The221 Conecto will be produced in Turkey at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Hosdere and deliveries will be spread over the to end in September 2012.

A special InterUrbino of the Solaris range was developed for the Polish National Fire Brigade. It will be used as a Mobile Command Unit in the Poznan region (West Poland) and will function as a communications hub taking the leading role in major events and during the operations of long duration. The vehicle is equipped with the latest telecommunications technologies and the equipment includes three workstations for radio operators, a powerful antenna, a table for briefings. In addition, 30 seats enable crew transports.
Feb 03, 2012 - Sprint closing for Volvo Buses
The fourth quarter of 2011 was in progress for Volvo Buses. Bus deliveries increased by 29 percent totaling 4,172 units compared with 3,230 in the year-earlier quarter. A good result in hard market conditions. The greatest satisfaction came from South America, where demand for heavy buses remained high with volumes up 30 percent compared to 2010. The Chinese market grew by 13 percent while Europe was at the same low levels of 2010. In North American the total bus market remained weak.
Feb 02, 2012 - Doors supply for Singapore
Four hundred bus doors landed in Singapore. Produced by the Spanish Masats, they were delivered to the Malaysian Gemilang, a leading bus manufacturer in the Far East, that will mount the doors on 200 vehicles with MAN chassis. The order was placed for the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT), one of the largest transport company of the Asian metropolis. The supply includes 200 inswinging doors and 200 electric sliding doors, all equipped with the most modern security systems such as a presence sensor and an electric sensitive edge on the rubber to prevent people getting trapped and to increase safety in the transit zone.
