Mauri is a historical body builder of the Italian bus market. Today the company is more focused on the importation of foreign models but does not give up building vehicles based on specific customer requirements. The production is focused on modular vehicles with reduced width (2.31 meters), designed primarily for transport in mountain areas. Mauri buses imported for the Italian market are of different brands and types. From Spain, the company imports the double decker Ayats Bravo 1. Come instead from Slovenia minibuses produced by the Austrian Kutsenits and from Turkey the Otocar. The story of Mauri began the Twenties of the last century when Carlo Mauri started to build sidecars, special bodies and also dedicated to the repair of cars. In 1939 Mauri started to work on vehicles for public transport establishing collaboration with the ATM, the public transport company of Milan. In 1949 succeeded the son Ambrogio that marked an evolution in the organization of production. The first project as a builder was dated 1966, it was a vehicle made of light alloy and produced from the mid-Seventies. Mauri was so among the first Italian coach builders to use the light alloy. For ATM of Milan the companyare rebuilt several buses with light alloy body. In 1973, Mauri restored 43 jumbo tram in 24 meters by changing the traditional carriages. In the same year the company built the first body on a Volvo B59 trolley chassis, vehicles still circulating at the transport company of Rimini. This was a trolley with a little self running guaranteed by a small diesel engine. In 1982 Mauri launched the first three-axle articulated bus with traction on the third axis and electro-pneumatic control, it was bodied on a Mauri chassis derived from an Iveco in 10.5 meters. In 1992 another record for the company of Desio: the first low-floor articulated buses to 350 mm on the front, bodywork in light alloy and digital system type Canbus. In 1993, following the serious crisis affecting the bus market in Italy, Mauri entrusted the production of their projects to Neoplan. As a result of this collaboration, debuted in 1994 the first low floor three-door citybus for the Italian market. Meanwhile at the helm of the company passed the children of Ambrose Mauri, Carlo and Umberto. In 1998 Mauri started the commercialization of Ayats coaches in Italy. The next year the company launched the Kronos project, a family buses city, suburban and intercity service with modular construction and high standardization of components. These vehicles will be produced until 2004. Meanwhile, since 2000 Mauri has been collaborating with the Austrian Kutsenits importing then its vehicles and in the years 2006-2009 has been selling the small and medium coaches produced by the Slovenian TVM Marbus. In 2011 signed a collaboration agreement with Otokar for the sale and servicing of the Turkey's buses in Italy.
